Many insects feed mainly or exclusively on vertebrate blood as this constitutes a highly nutritive element which is, except for the eventual presence of parasites, otherwise sterile. Feeding on the blood of mobile animals is, however, a risky task requiring particular sensory and behavioural adaptations. The discussion of the subject will introduce novel study models that have been submitted to particular evolutionary pressures and developed particular and very specific adaptations such as a highly-developed thermal sense, a marked modulation of behavioural responses and many others. The symposium proposes discussing recent findings on the molecular and sensory bases of perception, cognitive abilities, and mechanisms behind behavioural manipulation by parasites.

Preliminary Meeting Structure
Round Table
Confirmed speakers: Romina Barrozo (University of Buenos Aires, Argentina), Claudio R. Lazzari (University of Tours, France), Marcelo G. Lorenzo (FIOCRUZ, Belo Horizonte, Brazil), Alessandra Guarneri (Oswaldo Cruz Foundation, Brazil), Jorge Molina (Universidad de los Andes, Colombia).

Oral Presentations/Poster Session
Participants are welcome to present their work as talks or posters (poster size will be the same as in the main meeting). The same poster will be allowed presentation at the main meeting. Please submit your abstracts directly to (deadline January 15th 2016, same as main meeting).  Authors must indicate their preference for presenting their work orally or as a poster.  The organizers will privilege talks, as long as time slots are still available.

Registration fee: USD 25
Registration and payment should be done together with the registration to the main meeting.

By registering to this Satellite Meeting, you can also participate in the Satellite Meeting "Neural and behavioral plasticity in social insects" without charge.
