It is our great pleasure to welcome you all to the 2016 International Congress of Neuroethology, to be held March 30 to April 3, 2016, in Montevideo, Uruguay. The International Congress of Neuroethology is a biennial meeting sponsored by the International Society for Neuroethology (ISN) that brings together researchers from all over the world who are interested in the neural basis of natural behavior.

The Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for this meeting is composed of South American neuroethologists from Uruguay, Argentina, Brazil and Chile.
The region is home to a most diverse autochthonous fauna, with many species that have become powerful model systems in Neuroethology. We feel honored and excited to hold the first meeting of the International Society for Neuroethology in Latin America, and we expect that the ICN2016 will provide an excellent opportunity for many neuroethologists Latin American countries who have not had a chance to attend the ICN yet.

The Program Commitee has done a great job organizing a cutting-edge exciting program including a rich diversity of topics and species represented. Each day, there are plenary talks, symposia organized by members of the ISN, and poster sessions open to all registrants. The symposia include a session of Young Investigators Awardees and participant symposia selected from the poster abstracts. This year, for the first time, the program includes the JCP-A Presidential Symposium, with 6 outstanding talks by neuroethologists selected by ISN Presdient, Peter Narins. To welcome the ICN with South American flavor, the main meeting will be immediately preceded by the II Meeting of Neuroethology of the Southern Cone, in which ongoing neuroethology research projects from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, and Uruguay will be presented. In addition, the organization of the III Latin American School of Neuroethology to be held in Argentina and Uruguay will give the opportunity to 17 Latin American young students to embrace Neuroethology and to attend the ICN2016.

Montevideo is a welcoming place for visitors. The city combines Latin American and European styles with picturesque beaches along the Rio de la Plata, varied food and cultural opportunities. It is also strategically located as a starting point to visit other touristic landmarks in the region. We are already working hard to make the ICN2016 memorable.
We are hoping you will join us!

Looking forward to seeing you all in Montevideo,
Ana Silva, Chair, Local Organizing Committee
